Taking advantage of stripping the siding, we added a layer of house wrap and rigid insulation all around the house before reinstalling Hardie siding. We also reduced the leakage through the windows by applying low expansion spray foam to the weight pocket cavities before installing new case elements and pan flashing.
We also installed mini-split AC / heat-pump units in the house. These relatively simple steps, all done from the exterior of the house to reduce air leakage, increase the walls’ R-value, increase mechanical performance and comfort, and beautify the home were all done with minimal intrusion.
The end result : a comfortable, less drafty interior with a brand new exterior; all for under $40,000.
